Privacy Policy
SketchMap ("we", "the site") is operated by an individual and contactable at piumaldias@gmail.com. This policy explains what happens to information when you use the site. It is written to be read, not to be survived.
The short version
There are no accounts and no user database. We do not sell data. The locations you type are sent to a routing provider so that a route can be calculated, and advertising on the site is supplied by Google, which uses cookies.
What we process
- Locations you enter. Start and finish points, and the travel mode, are sent to our service and on to Google Maps Platform to calculate a route. They are not associated with you or with any identifier.
- Route results. Calculated routes are cached at our edge for a short period (currently up to six hours) so that a shared link does not trigger a fresh lookup for every visitor. The cache is keyed on the locations themselves and contains nothing about who requested them.
- Your IP address. Processed transiently by our hosting provider to serve the page and to enforce rate limits that prevent abuse of the routing service. We do not store it in any log we keep or use it to build a profile.
- Your device location. Only if you press "use my current location", and only after your browser asks your permission. The coordinates are used for that route request and are not retained by us.
- A units preference. Whether you prefer kilometres or miles is kept in your browser's local storage. It never leaves your device.
What we do not do
We do not require registration, we do not collect names or email addresses (unless you email us), we do not run analytics or tracking pixels of our own, and we do not sell or share data with anyone beyond the providers listed below.
Third parties
- Google Maps Platform renders the map and calculates routes. Your use of the embedded map is subject to Google's Privacy Policy.
- Google AdSense serves the advertising on this site. Google and its partners use cookies and similar technologies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. You can opt out of personalised advertising in Google Ads Settings, and review how Google uses data at this page. Third-party vendors may also serve ads on this site.
- Cloudflare hosts and delivers the site, and processes request metadata including IP addresses for security and delivery purposes.
Consent for advertising in the EEA, UK and Switzerland
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, you will be shown a consent message before personalised advertising cookies are used, and you may choose non-personalised advertising instead. You can change your choice at any time via the same message.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete or restrict the processing of personal data relating to you, and to complain to a supervisory authority. Because we hold no user accounts and no identifiable records, there is usually nothing for us to retrieve — but if you believe we hold something about you, write to piumaldias@gmail.com and we will respond.
Children
SketchMap is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly process their personal data.
Changes
If this policy changes materially, the date at the top of this page will change with it. Continued use of the site after an update means you accept the revised policy.
