Terms of Service
By using SketchMap you agree to these terms. If you do not agree with them, please do not use the site.
1. What the service is
SketchMap is a free tool that calculates a route between two points and displays it on a map. It is provided as-is, without any service level, uptime commitment or guarantee of continued availability. Features may change or be withdrawn at any time.
2. Routes, accuracy and your safety
Read this part. Routes are generated by a third-party routing service from map data that may be incomplete, out of date or simply wrong. A route drawn by SketchMap is a suggestion on a screen, not an assessment of whether a road is safe, legal, open, rideable or appropriate for you.
- Always obey traffic law, road signs, closures and the instructions of event marshals and authorities, regardless of what a route shows.
- Routes may include roads that are unsuitable or dangerous for cycling or running, may cross private land, and may not reflect current conditions, roadworks, weather or hazards.
- Estimated times are rough machine estimates. They are not a prediction of your performance and must never be used for pacing or safety decisions.
- If you are organising an event, you are responsible for physically verifying the course and for obtaining any permissions required.
You use routes from this site entirely at your own risk, and you are solely responsible for your own safety and for the safety of anyone you share a route with.
3. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- use automated means to query, scrape or bulk-extract routes from the site;
- attempt to circumvent rate limits or access the underlying routing services directly through this site;
- interfere with the operation of the site or attempt to gain unauthorised access to it;
- use the site for any unlawful purpose.
Access may be restricted or withdrawn where these terms are breached.
4. Third-party services and content
Maps, map data and routing are supplied by Google and remain the property of Google and its licensors. Your use of them is additionally subject to the Google Maps Platform Terms of Service and Google Privacy Policy. SketchMap is an independent project and is not affiliated with, sponsored by or endorsed by Google.
5. Advertising
The site is funded by advertising. Advertisements are supplied by third parties, and their presence is not an endorsement. We are not responsible for the content of advertisements or for anything you obtain from an advertiser.
6. Intellectual property
The SketchMap name, interface and original code belong to the operator. Map content belongs to its respective owners. You may share links to routes freely; you may not copy the site itself or present it as your own.
7. Disclaimer and limitation of liability
The service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose and accuracy. To the fullest extent permitted by law, the operator will not be liable for any injury, loss, damage or cost arising from your use of the site or of any route obtained from it.
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability where it cannot lawfully be excluded, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.
8. Changes
These terms may be updated. The date at the top of this page shows when they last changed, and continued use of the site after a change means you accept the revised terms.
9. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of [JURISDICTION], and the courts of [JURISDICTION] have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them.
